Abstract

PURPOSE:To impact copper gloss on a surface of a transparent article by succedingly coating an undercoat by a corrosion resistant reducing metal, a metal layer based on copper and a top coat comprising a material same to said undercoat on a surface of an article to be decorated such as glass or the like. CONSTITUTION:A surface of an article 20 to be decorated such as glass or the like is subjected to sputtering with a stainless steel to coat said surface with an undercoat 21 with a thickness of 30-130Angstrom , especially, 50-100Angstrom . Subsequently, copper is sputtered onto the undercoat 21 to from a copper layer 22 with a thickness of, for example, 100Angstrom . Next, the stainless steel is again sputtered on the copper layer 22 to form a top coat 23 with a thickness of 30-130Angstrom , espectially, 50-100Angstrom . As the result, the obtained decorated article has a noble metal like gloss due to the copper thin film without losing inherent beautiful appearance of a base material and can be prepared inexpensively and simply.
