Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer composition having excellent heat resistance and corona resistance, by blending a copolymer of ethylene and a basic metallic acrylate with an organic peroxide and a silane compound.
CONSTITUTION: A composition obtained by homogeneously blending 100pts.wt. copolymer comprising 50W99mol% ethylene and 1W50mol% basic metallic acrylate with 0.05W2.0pts.wt. organic peroxide, a silane compound represented by RR'SiY2 where R is an olefinic unsaturated monovalent hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy group; Y is an organic group which can be hydrolyzed; R' is R group or Y group, and further necessary additives of condensation catalysts and antioxidants such as dibutyltin dilaurate. Said composition can be grafted and crosslinked with silane when reacted at 185°C or higher. It is preferable from the standpoint of retaining corona resistance and flexibility that the copolymerization ratio of a basic metallic acrylate in said copolymer is in the range of 1W50mol%.
