Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a continuous flow of a large current during a short circuit and realize an automatic reset of the output when the short circuit is cancelled, by discontinuing the supply of voltage to either none of the reference voltage generating circuit and the error detecting circuit in case when an output terminal has a short circuit. CONSTITUTION:The voltage is supplied to both the reference voltage generating circuit 2 and the error detecting circuit 3 from the unstable voltage VCC via the resistance 1. The stable reference voltage VREF is generated from the circuit 2 to be supplied to the plus terminal of the circuit 3. The voltage VOS obtained by dividing the output voltage VO via the resistances 9 and 10 is supplied to the minus terminal of the circuit 3. The output of the circuit 3 controls the switching transistors TR4 and TR6 to produce the stable output voltage VO at the output terminal 7. When the terminal is earthed for short circuit, the current supplied from the voltage VCC flows to the diode D11. Then the voltage to each of the circuits 2 and 3 turns into the forward falling voltage, and thus the circuits 2 and 3 have no operation with the TR4 and TR6 are made nonconductive. The current flowing to the diode D11 is limited by the resistance 1 to avoid a flow of a large current. At the same time, the voltage is supplied again to the circuits 2 and 3 when the short circuit is cancelled to secure the output voltage VO again.
