Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a starting material of polyesters, in a short time and in high yield, by the esterification of an aromatic oxycarboxylic acid and an aromatic oxy compound in the presence of an aliphatic surfonic acid or alicyclic sulfonic acid as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by esterifying an aromatic oxycarboxylic acid with an aromatic oxy compound at 150W200°C in the presence of an aliphatic sulfonic acid (e.g. methanesulfonic acid, ethanesulfonic acid, etc.) and/or an alicyclic sulfonic acid (e.g. cyclohexanesulfonic acid, cycloheptanesulfonic acid, etc.), as the esterification catalysts. The amount of the catalyst to the aromatic oxycarboxylic acid is preferably 0.005W10mol%, esp. 0.01W1.0mol%, reduced to the sulfonic acid group contained in the sulfonic acid. Addition of a basic metal to the above reaction product is highly effective for the condensation and the polymerization, and high polymers can be obtained in a short time.
