Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the leak proofness of an alkaline battery by preparing the inside diameter of a battery case and the outside diameter of an insulating sealing ring in a specified dimensional relation and providing sealing compound layers on the part to be sealed. CONSTITUTION:A generating element such as positive electrode is contained in a battery case which also serves as a positive terminal, and sealed with a sealing plate 2 to which an insulating sealing ring 1 with an L-shaped cross section is coupled to form a battery. Where the outside diameter of the upper part of the sealing ring 1 at the sealing part of this battery, its lower outside diameter, and the inside diameter of the battery case are represented respectively by phi1, phi2 and phi3. They are formed to satisfy a dimensional relation: phi1>phi3>phi2. Sealing compound layers a', b' of chlorosulfonated polyethylene are provided only on the inside bottom face a contacting with the sealing plate 2 of the sealing ring 1 and on the folded periphery 3 of the sealing plate 2, and both are coupled and assembled while the sealing compound is still not dried up. It is suitable to apply the sealing compound layer b' on the folded part 3 beyond the folded inside edge of the sealing ring 1 and also to make the viscosity of the sealing compound layer b' higher than the other sealing compound layer a'.
