Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A dopa derivative of formula I (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl, benzyl, acyl or R1 and R2 together form alkylene; R3 is H, alkyl, aryl, or heteroaromatic group).
EXAMPLE: N-Phenyl-[2-amino-3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)]propionamide.
USE: An intermediate for preparing dopa which is useful as a remedy for Parkinson's disease.
PROCESS: A β-lactam compound of formula II (X is amino or azido) is subjected to the hydrogenolysis to give the compound of formula I. The compound of formula II is obtained by reacting an azidoacetyl chloride with a Schiff base prepared from veratrum aldehyde and aniline quantitatively in the presence of triethylamine.
