Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a reflex type display body which provides clear-contour display without shadow, by orienting the liquid crystal of a phase transition type guest- host liquid crystal display body vertically on one opaque substrate surface and horizontally on the other transparent substrate surface. CONSTITUTION:As for the phase transition type guest-host display body in which bicolor coloring matter is added to liquid crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy showing the cholesteric phase, transparent electrode 24 is provided on one lower opaque light-reflective substrate 23 and vertical orientation treatment 27 of a chromium complex body, etc., is carried out. On upper transparent substrate 22, transparent electrode 24 is provided and after polyimide is applied, a horizontal orientation treatment is done by lapping. Consequently, when the display body is applied with an electric field between electrodes 24, an excellent-contrast picture having neither color unevenness nor shadow can be obtained. As opaque substrate 23, a light scattering metallic electrode having an uneven surface may be used.
