Abstract
PURPOSE: To decide the degradation degree of an arrester accurately with a simple unit, by giving artificially a local maximum electric field stress, which the zinc oxide element stored in the arrester receives, to the test sample of the element outside the arrester.
CONSTITUTION: A material produced with the same slot as the element stored in the arrester is used as zinc oxide element 18 for test sample, and the form of a pair of electrodes 17 is so determined that severest conditions of a local electric field stress which the element inside the arrester receives may be given to element 18. Test sample 10 constituted in this manner is mounted on the arrester. For detection of degradation of the zinc oxide element, test sample 10 is separated from the arrester and is mounted on DC power source unit 30 including secondary side voltage variable transformer 31 and rectifying circuit 32, and nonlinear resistance components are measured by DC ammeter 32 and DC voltmeter. Thus, the degradation degree of the arrester can be decided accurately.
