Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove skillfully and easily rust formed on the surface of base metal with a cleaning apparatus by generating arc between the base metal with a negative voltage applied and an electrode with a positive voltage applied.
CONSTITUTION: Arc generating torch 2 provided with electrode 4 in casing 3 is placed opposite to base metal 1, and arc is generated between electrode 4 with a positive voltage applied and metal 1 with a negative voltage applied. As a result, electrons of metal 1 move to electrode 4, so an iron oxide film on the surface of metal 1 is broken through and removed by emitted electrons to clean the surface of metal 1. Electrode 4 is a hollow rod, and it is prevented from being superheated by feeding cooling water to feed water pipe 10 put in the rod and allowing the water to flow out of discharge pipe 11.
