Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a sintered iron alloy with higher toughness at peripheral parts of circular opening and enhanced fatigue strength and rolling fatigue strength by adding Ni to an iron green compact at the time of sintering to raise the concn. of Ni at the peripheral parts of circular opening.
CONSTITUTION: Ni as an alloying element is added to iron or iron alloy powder to prepare starting material powder of Fe-Cr-Ni, Fe-Mo-Ni, Fe-Mn-Ni, Cr-Ni, Mo-Ni, Mn-Ni or the like. Base iron powder is mixed with this powder, compacted, and sintered to diffuse the Cr, Mo, Mn and Ni in the iron, thereby forming circular opening. At this time, undiffused Ni is left at peripheral parts of circular opening to form parts of higher Ni concn. Thus, the toughness of the peripheral parts of the circular opening receiving concentrated stress is increased preponderantly, and a sintered iron alloy with high fatigue strength and rolling fatigue strength is obtd. In this alloy about 8W80% Ni in the starting material powder produces a satisfactory effect.
