Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title aqueous dispersion having high stability and excellent workability, and giving a coating film of desirable characteristics, without using a surface active agent, by dispersing a specific polyester copolymer in a aqueous medium.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester copolymer composed of (A) terephthalic acid, (B) 1,4-butanediol and ethylene glycol, (C) 20W60mol%, based on the components (A) and/or (B), of a dicarboxylic acid and/or a diol copolymer components, and (D) 1W5mol%, based on the dicarboxylic acid component, of an ester-forming sulfonic acid metal salt monomer (pref. 3-sulfo-isophthalic acid sodium salt), is dissolved in a solvent pref. composed mainly of tetrahydrofuran. The solvent is removed from the solution in the presence of water to obtain an aqueous dispersion of polyester having an average particle diameter of ≤1μ, and essentially free of precipitate.
