Abstract

PURPOSE: To judge the occurrence of bulging inexpensively and surely through utilization of existing equipment by detecting one or both of the pulling load and surface temperature of the cast billet when the cast billet pulling speed of continuous casting is within a fixed range.
CONSTITUTION: Molten steel poured from a tundish 1 into a mold 2 is pulled by roller aprons 3 and pinch rolls 4 while solidifying. The signal from the pulse generator 10 which detects the number of revolutions of a motor 5 for driving the pinch rolls 4 indicates pulling speed and has been set approximately constant. The signal from an ammeter 20 indicates the load condition of the motor 5 and even if the pulling speed is constant, the current value increases when bulging occurs. The signal from a high-temperature radiation thermometer 30 indicates the surface temperature of the cast billet and increases as bulging occurs. In this way, when one or both of these signals exceed the set values, an AND circuit 40 generates the alarm signal for bulging occurrence.
