Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A large-ring oxalkyl lactone having alkyl groups as side chains.
EXAMPLE: 12-OXa-15-methyl-pentadecanolide.
USE: Perfumes having a fragrance closely resembling that of musk. Characterized by the side chains.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II: (R is alkyl; however, the number of R is ≥1, and may be linked to any carbon atom; n is an integer ≥1) is reacted with a compound of formula III: (p and q are n; R' is H or alkyl group) at 120W160°C to give a compound of formula IV, which is cyclized in the presence of sodium methylate at 180W120°C to form a large-ring oxalkyl lactone having side chains of formula V.
