Abstract

PURPOSE: A specific boron compound and inorganic light particles are blended and dispersed in a phenolic resin foam to give an incombustible material for consttuction.
CONSTITUTION: When a phenolic resin is mixed with a surface active agent, foaming agent, curing catalyst, etc., and casted, 50W250 PHR of a hydrated borate salt as borax with particle sizes of 30W600 microns and 10W50 PHR of porous aggregate as perlite or siras baloon, with particle sizes of 1W5 mm are incorporated. The borax melts at 60W80°C, releases water at about 120°C and finally forms glass foam at the molting point, 878°C. Therefore, the resulting cured articles resist fire, at the beginning, chemically by evolving steam and further, when exposed to higher temperatures, physically by changing in ceramic.
