Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a high-reliability screen by automatically setting a threshold level from the peak value of a detection output signal. CONSTITUTION:A detection output signal is stored 51 and from stored signals, their peak value is detected 52; and this peak value is used to set 33 threshold level TH a previously-set constant. Next, time (echo width) Tn when the detection output signal is smaller than level TH is detected 54 and decision 55 on whether this echo width is within the range of the transmission pulse width of a sonar unit, the minimum echo width set previously from desired length, and the maximum echo width is made. Then, when it is within the range, signals in Tn are left and other signals are considered to be reverberation or noises; and stored detection signals are erased 56 and signals within the ranges are sequentially outputted to a scanner circuit. In this way, the threshold level is automatically set from the peak value of current detection output signals, so that a high-reliability picture can be obtained.
