Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove a polymerization inhibitor completely from a vinyl monomer by distillation using a specific solvent, thereby eliminating the necessity of waste water disposal and preventing the loss of the vinyl monomer.
CONSTITUTION: A polymerization inhibitor is separated from a crude vinyl monomer by distillation in the presence of a solvent which has a higher b.p. than the vinyl monomer (preferably higher by ≥50°C) and can dissolve the polymer of said vinyl monomer, (e.g. butane, pentane, benzene, toluene, acetone etc.). This method prevents the loss of the vinyl monomer taken out together with the polymerization inhibitor from the bottom of the distillation column, and also prevents the deposition of resinous material produced in the distillation, to the wall surface. The loss of the vinyl monomer is an unavoidable demerit of conventional distillation process.
