Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title oligomer rich in polymer component having a polymerization degree of ≥3, and useful as a raw material of epoxy resin having improved mechanical strength, by polymerizing m-siopropenylphenol at a specific high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: m-Isopropenylphenol is polymerized at 135W230°C in the presence or absence of solvent to obtain an oligomer containing large amount of polymer having a degree of polymerization of ≥3. When the reaction temperature is about 130W160°C, the use of a small amount of solvent is preferable to reduce the viscovity of the product. The presence of acidic solid catalyst is effective to accelerate the reaction, and to prevent the pollution of waste water. Especially an acidic solid catalyst of MHSO4 (M is alkali metal) gives a high molecular weight loigomer, and particularly the use of the above catalyst in a fixed layer gives a sufficiently pure oligoner without further purification process.
