Abstract

PURPOSE: To simultaneously detect the flaw at the inner and outer surfaces of a steel tube by an ultrasonic wave oblique flaw detector having two types of probes.
CONSTITUTION: Probes 6a, 6b detect the flaw on the outer surface of a steel tube 1, and probes 6c, 6d detect the flaw on the inner surface of the tube 1. The probes 6a, 6b are so mounted on the outer surface of the tube that the refractive angle θo becomes 35W55° at the outer surface with respect to ultrasonic wave beams 7a, 7b and that both the beams propagate in reverse direction to prevent the detecting capacity from lowering due to the direction of the flaw. Since the incident angle to the flaw on the outer surface of the beams is equal to the refractive angle, the reciprocating passage rate of the beams is very high, and the reflection factor of the beam at right angle becomes 100% to thereby detect the flaw on the outer surface in high sensitivity. The probes 6c, 6d also operate similarly.
