Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove almost completely, as well as phosphoric acid ion responsible for the occurrence of red tide, such harmful substances as COD, heavy metals (mainly iron), etc., present in chemical cleaning waste waters including citric acid cleaning liquid for the removal of scale and the phosphoric acid rest-proofing liquid to within the effluent standard values.
CONSTITUTION: Calcium hydrozide or calcium oxide is added to waste water to make it alkaline, whereupon heavy metals (mainly iron), citric acid, and phosphates present in the waste water are precipitated in the forms of heavy metal hydroxides, calcium citrate, and calcium phosphate. Furthermore, a persulfate is added to the supernatant liquor of the waste water in another container in an amount more than equivalent of COD present in the liquor to decompose the COD components by oxidation. In this method, since calcium citrate is hard to sediment completely because of its comparatively high solubility, the citric acid as a COD component in the waste water is oxidized by a perfulfate for decomposition. Thus, harmful substances can be removed to within the effluent standard values as shown in the table.
