Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent scatter of acid mist, by covering the cathode with masking material, collecting the acid mist released from the cathode in the upper part of the masking material, and separating into electrolyte and hydrogen, when treating Al or other material in aqueous solution of sulfuric acid by anodic oxidation process.
CONSTITUTION: In an anodic oxidation treatment bath tank 1 filled with an electrolyte 2 such as aqueous solution of sulfuric acid, Al or other metal to be treated as the anode, and a cathode 3 covered with masking material 4 made from acidproof fiber such as cotton flannel and saran are suspended. The upper end of the masking material 4 should be higher than the liquid level in the bath tank, and a trap 5 of acid mist is formed. Above the trap 5 is formed a shield 6, which is secured to an overflow trough 7 through a linkage 8. Hydrogen generated from the cathode 3 during anodic oxidation treatment by electrolysis is changed to an acid mist together with the electrolyte and climbs the masking material 4 to be collected in the acid mist trap 5. Then, hitting against the shield 6 provided above, the mist is separated into hydrogen and electrolyte, which are separately recovered. Therefore, corrosion of the machines and facilities due to scatter of mist from the treatment tank 1 may be prevented.
