Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an instrument with extremely-low non-linearity of an electromagnetic flow meter by providing a magnetic adjuster whose magnetic intensity decreases as a difference in potential between opposing electrodes increases.
CONSTITUTION: On the external surface of tube 1 where a fluid flows, a couple of electrodes 2 and 3 are provided by welding and amplifiers 4 and 6, excitation coil 5 providing the fluid with a magnetic field, current adjuster 7, current detector 8, and divider circuit 9 are arranged. The output of current detector 8 is applied as a divisor to divider circuit 9 and that of amplifier 4 is as a dividend to divider 9. Since a difference in potential between a couple of electrodes 2 is the product of the velocity of flow and the magnetic field, the output of divider circuit 9 is a signal of only the velocity of flow with an influence of the magnetic flield removed from outputs of electrodes 2. The difference in potential appearing across electrodes 2 and 3 is nearly constant without reference to the velocity of flow and as the velocity of flow increases, the magnetic field becomes slight, so that non-linearity based upon mutual operation between the fluid and magnetic field will lessen.
