Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the necessity of installation of a heating coil in a ballast tank by allowing ballast water to circulate by means of ballast pump and preventing certainly the freezing of ballast water, when a ship navigates in cold region.
CONSTITUTION: In a ship 1 having a ballast tank 2 continuous up and down integrally on the side of the ship, the ballast water W in the ballast tank 2 is drawn out by a bell mouth 3 arranged at the bottom position in the tank lower than the draft line a, and discharged outside the ship from the overboard discharge port 5 of the ship 1 by the operation of a pump 4. At the same time, the sea water having the amount corresponding to the displacement is taken in from a sea-chest 6 arranged in the vicinity of the bottom of the ship and fed in the tank from an upper water pouring pipe 8 of the ballast tank 2 by the operation of a pump 7, and the ballast water in the ballast tank 2 is allowed to circulate. Thus, the freezing of ballast water in navigation in cold region can be prevented.
