Abstract
1361557 Cleaning tanks ISHIKAWAJIMAHARIMA JUKOGYO K K 27 Sept 1972 [11 Dec 1971] 44671/72 Heading A4F [Also in Division B7] In a method of removing liquid and sludge from a tank liquid is pumped from the tank, and some of the pumped liquid is discharged adjacent the sludge so that the sludge is disturbed and goes into suspension in the liquid, and is pumped from the tank with the liquid. During discharge to shore of oil in a ship's tanks 3 by a pump 8 via a pipe 9 part of the oil being transferred is passed from the pipe 9 through valves 17 and pipes 10 to leaders 11 to be discharged through perforated pipes 13 adjacent to the sludge in the tanks to form a suspension which is pumped to the shore by the pump 8. The pipes 13 extend above channels formed on the tank bottoms by partitions 12. The tanks 3 may be cleaned after the oil discharge by pumping detergent liquid through the perforated pipes 13. Oil gas remaining in the tanks 3 after cleaning may be withdrawn by suction through pipe system 10, 11, 13. In an alternative embodiment the perforated pipes extend across the channels at the bottoms of the oil tanks. For mixing sediments in a ballast tank with sea water and pumping the mixture from the ship a further embodiment comprises discharge pipes for sea water provided with perforations or nozzles and arranged near the bottom of the ballast tank.
