Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A 1, 2-benzodiazepine devivative of formula I: (R1 is H or lower alkyl group; R2 is lower alkyl group).
EXAMPLE: 1-Methyl-3-oxo-1, 2-benzodiazepine.
USE: Central nervous depressants and their intermediates.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is irradiated with light in the presence of oxygen gas to give the compound of formula I. The compound of formula II can be obtained by irradiating an N-iminoquinoline derivative of formula IV with light to give a compound of formula III, which is alkylated with an alkylating agent, e.g. an alkyl halide.
