Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect scarfing of seizing phenomenon in such a way that vibrating signals generated at the piston are skirt converted to abnormal vibrating signals at the piston topland or piston ring by introducing them into a gate circuit and a comparator.
CONSTITUTION: An accelerometer, such as a vibrometer 2 is installed at the lower part of a cylinder liner 1, vibration is detected at the piston skirt part. Observation of its output signals through an amplifier 3 at an oscilloscope 4 coincides with selection of abnormal signals at the piston topland or piston ring by a gate circuit 5. And its output signals are made level display by a level indicator 11 through a reliability improving circuit 6 to eliminate noise, are compared with a settled value by a comparator 12, when the difference comes up beyond the constancy, an alarm device 13 gives alert on the ground that it is in the scarfing condition.
