Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform a tappet shim exchanging operation without an obstacle even where there is no sufficient spatial room around a location of a cam by providing a tappet shim exchanging tool with a semicircular inner periphery which is to be securely fitted to a fitting portion of a cam shaft and also with an outer periphery which is formed into a circular cam surface.
CONSTITUTION: In exchanging a tappet shim 14 using an exchanging tool 30, the tool 30 is first fitted and secured to a fitting portion 22 of a cam shaft 20. A crank shaft is then rotated manually to rotate a predetermined amount the cam shaft 20 which is connected to the crank shaft, whereupon the outer periphery of a cam portion 30b of the tool 30 is abutted against a part of an upper round edge of a valve lifter 12 to push the lifter 12 downwardly and simultaneously a cam 21 of the cam shaft 21 and the tappet shim 14 are spaced apart from each other to form a predetermined gap therebetween. Thus, an operator can obtain a desired operating space between the cam 21 and the tappet shim 14 without manually operating the tool 30.
