Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the castability of a die casting hydroalloy by adding Si and to prevent an elongation lowering due to the increased Si content by heat treating the alloy at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:A die casting hydroalloy prescribed by the JIS.ADC5 standard is an Al alloy contg. Mg; 4.0-8.5% as a principal component and further contg. little Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Ni, Sn and Si. This alloy has inferior castability, so in order to improve the castability and prevent occurrence of casting defects such as misrun and casting cracks in die cast products, the Si content is increased to about 1.6% or less. An elongation lowering due to the increased Si content can be prevented simply and easily by heating die cast products at 300-500 deg.C for 1-4hr.
