Abstract
A treatment for high phosphorus cast iron, i.e. containing more than 0.7% phosphorus comprises adding a chill inducing agent to the melt, casting, and subjecting the casting to an annealing treatment at 80 to 1000 DEG C. The chill inducing agent may be Mg, Ce, or Ca and mixtures thereof, Cu.Te alloy, B, or Te and it is preferable to desulphurize the metal, e.g. by soda ash, before adding the agent. The metal may, after treatment and with or without an innoculation with Fe-Si, be cast into chill moulds. The phosphorus is obtained in a spheroidal form. Specification 630.070 is referred to.
