Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the performance of cutting tool material, by chemical vapor deposition of the nitride of IVa group transition metal on the surface of base material for super hard alloy parts made by bonding the double carbide (carbonitride) of Mo and W as hard material with a transition metal such as Cr, and by increasing C content of te inner part more than that of the outer part. CONSTITUTION:The surface of base material made by bonding the double carbide (carbonitride) of Mo and W as hard material with transition metal such as Cr, Mo, W, Fe, or Ni is coated with nitride of IVa group transition metal such as TiN by chemical vapor deposition to a thickness of 1-20mu. By this method a small quantity of (MoxW1-x)C near the surface of the base material is decomposed to (MoxW1-x)2C and C, and the C is consumed to form coating film.
