Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration in molded articles during continuous molding and lowering in mechanical strength and an oxygen barrier property thereof, by drying a vinyl alcohol polymer containing voltatile matters by dielectric heating, and thereafter melt-molding the same.
CONSTITUTION: Vinyl alcohol polymer particles containing voltatile matters are dried by dielectric heating by a high frequency of 5 to 3,000 MHz, and thereafter the particles are subjected to melt-molding using an injection molding process, an extrusion molding process or the like. A preferable vinyl alcohol polymer is a saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer with 15 to 50 mol% ethylene and 90% or more of the saponidication degree of a vinyl acetate component. The forms of particles used may be those of particle, cake, powder and the like having a diameter of about 5mm or less. The high frequency in the dielectric heating is 5 to 30 MHz in a large-size heater and 30 to 80 MHz in a small-size heater and the heating time of several minutes to several tens minutes is sufficient.
