Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a polyester with excellent color tone, by a method wherein a difunctional carboxylic acid based on terephthalic acid and a glycol are reacted in the presence of a specific glycol-soluble metal compound catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A difunctional carboxylic acid (an ester-forming derivative) based on terephthalic acid and a glycol based on ethylene glycol are reacted in the pesence of a catalyst comprising (A) one or more of a metal compound slected from glycol- soluble Sb, Ti, Ge, Sn, and Zn compounds and (B) 0.001×10-4W0.1×10-4mol to one mole of the acid component of a glycol-soluble molybdenum compound. Thereby, the reaction rate is remarkably increased and a good-quality polyester not depositing insoluble substances of the catalyst can be obtained.
