Abstract

PURPOSE: To freely adjust the content and grain size of carbide and improve the wear resistance and rupture toughness of a sintered material by adding Cr steel or Cr cast iron powder to steel or cast iron powder contg. a specified amount or more of C while making the Cr content of the former powder higher than that of the latter powder followed by compacting and sintering.
CONSTITUTION: Steel or cast iron powder contg. C >0.6% is mixed with Cr steel or Cr cast iron powder whose Cr content is higher than that of the former powder so that equation Cr(B)≥Cr(A)+2% is satisfied between the former Cr content Cr(A)% and the latter Cr(B)%. Supposing the former C content to be C(A)%, the latter C content C(B)% and the powder mixing ratio (1-X):X, the relation of C(A)(1-X)+C(B)X≥0.6(1-X)+5X is satisfied. The mixed powder is then compacted to high density by HIP method and sintered by heating. Hard Cr carbide is formed and enhances the wear resistance and toughness of the sintered material.
