Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve smaller size and weight and higher economization of the connector by providing a condensing system consisting of a concave reflecting mirror behind the optical fibers to be fusion-bonded thereby condensing the greater portion of laser beams again to the fiber position. CONSTITUTION:A miniature waveguide type laser is used as a CO2 laser light source 4. Fibers 1, 1' are held by right and left holding means 11, 11', are aligned by a V-form jig 12 so as to become parallel with each other and are butted in the state that they are being exerted with butting pressure by a spring 13 and micrometer. A waste groove 14 is dug in the place where the right and left end faces are butted and the bottom surface of the waste groove 14 is a concave reflecting mirror 8. The fibers 1, 1' receive the laser beam 3 condensed by a condenser lens 7 in the central part of the waste groove 14 from above and receives the laser beam 9 again condensed by the concave mirror 8 from below, whereby they are evenly heated and fused. In this way, the small, light and economical connector is obtained.
