Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain nitrogen solid-dissolved photoconductive zinc oxide powder assuming a red color and having sensitivity to visible light by dipping zinc oxide powder in an aq. oxalic acid soln. to convert the surface layer of the powder into zinc oxalate followed by calcination in ammonia gas.
CONSTITUTION: White zinc oxide powder is dipped in an aq. oxalic acid soln. of a predetermined concn. to convert the surface layer of the power into zinc oxalate of a desired thickness. The powder is then filtered, dried, and calcined at a predetermined temp. in a furnace while flowing ammonia gas. By this method nitrogen solid-dissolved zinc oxide powder is obtd. assuming a red or pink color and having stable photoconductive characteristics.
