PURPOSE:To provide a long-life, high energy density battery, by employing an alkali metal as the negative active material and a specific organic material as the positive active material and by placing between them the solid electrolyte which is formed by the reaction of said two active materials. CONSTITUTION:The negative active material 4 selected from alkali metals is filled on the bottom plate 3 of stainless steel in the case, and on that is directly placed 7, 7, 8, 8-tetracyanoquinodimethane as the positive active material 6. The reaction at the interface between the negative active material 4 and the positive active material 6 forms an alkali metal salt of 7, 7, 8, 8-tetraquinodimethane as the layer of the solid electrolyte 5. This constitution permits easy assembly of battery without adding any special solid electrolyte.
