Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the active-material holding strength of an electrode, by using a spongelike metal sheet whose surface area has a larger lattice diameter than the center area. CONSTITUTION:An electrode base plate is made of a spongelike metal sheet having a three dimensionally continuous structure, and an active material and the like are packed into the base plate. The base plate is made of a sheet whose lattice diameter in its surface area is larger than that in the center area. For instance, the diameter of a lattice 1a near the surface area of a nickel lattice 1 is larger than that of a lattice 1b in the center area.
