Abstract

PURPOSE: To monitor the low temperature in a wide-range measured place with a low cost, by cooling a plastic pipe, which is laid in the measured place, up to a low temperature to make the plastic pipe fragile and by detecting lowering of the pipe internal pressure dependent upon generated crack.
CONSTITUTION: Plastic pipe 2 is laid spirally around the measured place on the outside circumference of low-temperature tank 1 such as an LPG tank, and the tip of pipe 2 is sealed, and the base end is connected to internal pressure applying source 4 through three-direction electromagnetic valve 3, thereby making it possible to apply the internal pressure to pipe 2. The pipe internal pressure and the applied pressure are measured by pressure gauges 5 and 6. Detection pressures dependent upon pressure gauges 5 and 6 are inputted to differential pressure detector 8 to measure the differential pressure, and a differential pressure signal is issued when the differential pressure is generated. The valve open signal issued from valve control unit 7 and the differential pressure signal issued from differential pressure detector 8 are applied to AND circuit 9, and a low temperature detection signal is issued to alarm unit 10 when both signals are issued together.
