Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an acrylate elastomer which can provide a vulcanizate having excellent resistance to thermal aging, by copolymerizing a hydroxyl group-containing monomer with an acryl elastomer having vinyl chloroacetate as a crosslinking site component.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer mixture is copolymerized containing (A) 55W 98.9wt% of an acrylate selected from the group consisting of an alkyl acrylate, with a 1W8C alkyl group, and an alkoxyalkyl acrylate, with 1W4C alkyl and alkylene groups, (B) 10W1wt% of vinyl chloroacetate, (C) 5W0.1wt% of a hydroxyl group- containing monomer and (D) 30W0wt% of another monomer(s) copolymerizable therewith. Preferably, the copolymerization reaction is conducted in aqueous emulsion at a temperature of -10W100°C in the presence of an emulsifying agent, polymerization initiator and, optionally, a polymerization modifier.
