Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adiabatic effeciency of the combustion chamber by using fiber reinforced metal (FRM) for a cylinder liner. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical member 4 made of FRM is molded into the inner wall of a cylinder liner to where a top ring 31 does not reach because of leaving an interval distance H towrard the top dead center, with a fitting member 5 having heat-resistance and elasticity. In such an arrangement, heat within a combustion chamber C is prevented effectively from transmitting to the cylindrical member 4 and the fitting member 5 and then running away therethrough so that the thermal efficiency is improved.
