Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high-accuracy horizontal thin-film magnetic head by forming a unified body through adhesion for a pair of chips which were cut vertically to the thin-film magnetic layer with polishing to expose the end face and then securing the opposite relation between the both end faces with the fixed gap length. CONSTITUTION:The coil is formed by growing U-shaped conductor layer 11 in lamination onto nonmagnetic substrate 9 containing lower magnetic layer 10, and then upper magnetic layer 12 is laminated on the coil as if it covers over layers 10 and 11. And then such product is cut at the positions of chain lines 13 and 14 after installation of protective film 15, and the cut face receives the lapping finish to obtain chip T. After this, a pair of chips T and T' are positioned to secure fixed gap length G after giving the opposite relation between end faces 16 and 16', and then both chips T and T' are adhered via the glass or epoxy resin 18 or the like into one body. Then protective films 15 and 15' are removed by polishing to expose upper magnetic layers 12 and 12'. Thus the magnetic head is obtained.
