Abstract
PURPOSE: To contrive to shorten the operating time, by causing the plastic flow of the material according to the flow forming method, and by forming the stepped portion so as to complete the formation of the cylinder together with the stepped shape through the same process.
CONSTITUTION: The material 10 is attached to the mandrel 12 which is then rotated; under this condition, the roller 11 is advanced ironing the material 10. When the roller 11 arrives at the cut-in position 10a, the roller 11, continuing the longitudinal movement, radially presses the material 10 into the position 10b at specified depth of cut. Next, when the roller 11 arrives at the position 10c for beginning the upward cut, the roller 11 parts from the mandrel 12 so far as the position 10d for ending the upward cut. After that, the clearance between the roller 11 and the mandrel 12 is kept as it is, and the roller 11 is moved along the longitudinal direction of the mandrel 12. Thus the flow forming is performed for forming the cylinder with the specified wall thickness, and at the same time, the depth of radial pressure welding of the roller 11 at the specified position is adjusted; hereby, the operating time is greatly shortened as compared with the cutting work, and the cylinder with the stepped portion can be formed freely from the thickness deviation.
