Abstract
PURPOSE: To descale a hot rolled steel strip without coil break by coiling the strip; uncoiling the resulting hot coil without cooling; and projecting high press. water and a shot blasting material at the same time.
CONSTITUTION: A steel strip rolled by a hot rolling mill is coiled at 600W750°C. The resulting hot coil is shifted to a descaling process without cooling and uncoiled to the original strip kept at above 250°C. High press. water and a slurried shot blasting material are simultaneously projected on the strip surface. The particles of the material act as boiling nuclei on the surface, cause nuclear boiling heat transfer, and increase cooling rate. The temp. gradient between the strip and surface scale is enlarged, and the scale is finely cracked by the difference in expansion coefficient between the strip and scale, thus the scale being removed thoroughly. Since the descaling is carried out at a temp. above 250°C at which coil break occurs in the strip, the occurence of coil break can be prevented.
