Abstract

PURPOSE: A polymerization initiator is added to a syrup with high content of methyl methacrylate polymer and th polymerization is completed to produce title resin plates in short times.
CONSTITUTION: Methyl methacrylate monomers are fed into the first reaction section in the first reaction zone where a plurality of reaction sections are arranged in series and at the same time a radical polymerization initiator is supplied into 2 or more reaction sections including the first reaction section. Then almost parts of monomer in syrup are polymerized in each reaction section under such conditions that the remaining concentration of the initiator may be 1/2W1/1000 of the initial concentration at the start of the polymerization. Subsequently, the syrup is introduced into the second reaction zone and kept under conditions of temperature and time that the rest of the monomer is polymerized and the remaining concentration of the initiator can be neglected to make the polydispersity of polymerization degree distribution 3.0 or less that is expressed as a ratio of the weight average polymerization degree to the number average polymerization degree. After a radical polymerization initiator is added to the syrup, the mixture is fed into a space formed between two moving bands to complete the polymerization
