Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a methyl methacrylate resin sheet having excellent mechanical properties without foaming during the polymerization and the molding, by carrying out the first stage of the polymerization in a continuous stirring reaction vessel, and sucessively in a pipe-type reactor, thereafter by continuously polymerizing between transferring layers adding a polymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: Methyl methacrylate or its mixture with monomers copolymerizable therewith (e.g. methyl acrylate, etc.), is fed into a continuous stirring reaction vessel together with a polymerization initiator (e.g. benzoyl peroxide, etc.). The polymer having a sharp polymerization degree distribution and its polydisperse degree of ≤3, is prepared by adjusting the temperature and the average retention time. Successively the polymer is fed into a pipe-type reactor and the concentration of the residual initiator is controlled to attain 1/2W1/1,000 of the initial concentration. The polymerization initiator is added to the syrup and the compound is fed into the space between the upper and lower continuously transferring bands to complete the polymerization. Consequently a sheet polymer is continuously obtained
