Abstract
PURPOSE: To minimize thermal cladding tube deformation caused by thermal expansion of fuel pellet by applying a certian pressure to the inside of cladding tube of nuclear fuel element (fuel rod) to increase coefficient of overall heat transmission between cladding tube and fuel pellet.
CONSTITUTION: Fuel pellet 2 of heating element is inserted into cladding tube 3, the top and bottom end of cladding tube 3 being welded to seal with the end plugs 4. The top section of fuel rod 1 provides air space called plenum 5 for holding fission gas, air space of which contains plenum spring 6 for imposing on fuel pellet 2. Good thermal conductivity inert gas is sealed within the fuel rod 1 under initial pressure of more than 1.5 atmospheric pressure and less than 4 atmospheric pressure at ambient temperature as a thermal media between fuel pellet 2 and cladding tube 3
