Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable coloring of liquid crystal cell to be achieved by twist-orienting the long axis direction of liquid crystal molecules at a fixed angle to glass surfaces so as to make double refraction at the non-application of voltage in an FET- TN type liquid crystal cell.
CONSTITUTION: All liquid crystal molecules 13 are oriented between multually parallel glass plates 11, 12 constituting a liquid crystal cell 10 in such a manner that their long axis direction assumes a fixed angle θ, e.g., 45°, to the plates 11, 12, and all the molecules 13 twist by assuming a fixed angle in mutually fixed direction at the non-application of voltage application, these so orient that their long axis direction become perpendicular to the plates 11, 12
