Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a cheap and safe heating compsn. contg. iron powder, carbon powder, NaCl and water which are easily available in our daily living environment.
CONSTITUTION: To above 30, pref. 50W300 mesh iron powder are added 0.1W20 wt% of 50W400 mesh carbon powder and 1 wt% of a satd. aq. soln. of NaCl. The amt. of water to be added is not limited, yet it is e.g. 5W300 wt% to the iron powder. An inert substance such as fiber powder or inorg. water absorbing substance may be added as a water holding material to improve the gas permeability. The resulting compsn. is charged into a wholly or partially permeable container. This compsn. heats when contacted to oxygen or air, and by interrupting the contact it stops heating. A heating state of 40W70°C can be continued for 18W30 hr according to the amt. of iron powder, so this compsn. can be used as a substitute for a pocket heater.
