Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce activated carbon the pore vol. of which in the trnasitional region can be increased selectively by a simple operation to regulate the pore distribution, by adding specific metals to a carbonaceous material, followed by gas activation.
CONSTITUTION: To a powder or about 0.3W6 mm size granular carbonaceous material such as coal are added one or more kinds of metals or their salts in an amt. of 0.001W1, esp. 0.001W0.5 wt% as metal. The addn. is carried out e.g. by spraying a soln. or suspension of the metals or their salts upon the raw material. The metals or their salts include Na, Ca, Fe, Co, etc. or their oxides, sulfides, sulfates, etc. The metal-added or impregnated carbonaceous material is then dried and activated by contact with steam, CO2, etc. at 600W1200°C. The resulting activated carbon is esp. useful for treatment of waste water.
