Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect abnormality on a changable cutting tool during operation by providing both a means to supply air with constant pressure above the atmospheric pressure through an air hole in a tool holder, and a means which converts detected change of air flow into an electric signal. CONSTITUTION:An air hole 6 is provided in a tool holder 3 on which a changable insert-chip 1 is fixed. This air hole 6 has an opening on a tool holder surface where the lower surface of the chip 1 is in contact with. The air coming from an air compressor 9 is controlled to a constant, positive pressure by a pressure regulator 8 and is supplied to the air hole 6 through a pressure change detector 7. The detector 7 is connected to a signal convertor 10 by means of piping, and an electric signal produced in the convertor 10 is transmitted to an alarm 11 through electric lead wires. With this constitution, abnormality on a cutting tool whose chip is changable is detected quickly during operation, thus increasing production efficiency.
