Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent formation of scale on a cathode over a long term and to minimize a voltage rise between electrodes by covering a fluororesin on the surface of a part of the cathode which part contacts to a cathode chamber frame or other portion, and/or the surface of the periphery of the part.
CONSTITUTION: Fluororesin 2 is covered on the surface of the periphery of part 3 of cathode 1 which part contacts to cathode chamber frame 4. In case of a cathode used in an industrial-scale electrodialytic or electrolytic cell, it is enough to cover fluororesin 2 of 0.3W3 cm width continuously or discontinuously. The thickness of the covered resin is made as thin as about 0.2W2 mm not to damage the current flowing effect. A fluororesin sheet or film is adhered with an adhesive or by heat bonding, or the cathode surface is coated with fluororesin powder and sintered to cover the fluororesin. The fluororesin includes PTFE, PCTFE, polymers of CH2CHF, CH2CF2, CCl2CF2, etc. and copolymers thereof.
